A circular walk of about 4 miles starting in the village of Childrey,
near Wantage in Oxfordshire.Directions to the Hatchet.

The route.
1. From the Hatchet pub walk through the village past the general
stores and the pond to the red brick Reading Room. Continue along the
raised path with wall on your right into Church Road. Take the right
fork and then bear right down signed footpath. Pass through gateway and
turn left down narrower path.
2. Where the footpath meets the road at West Challow turn sharp left at
the first of the two signs (circular walk footpath) to enter trees on
left shortly to reach stile. After stile turn right and follow edge of
field with hedge on your right to soon cross corner of field to gate.
Pass through gate and footbridge and walk straight ahead through two
fields to cross stile and footbridge. Cross next field to another
stile. After stile follow path heading right with disused canal on your
left. Notice restoration work in progress.
3. Continue along footpath to climb stile at road. Turn right down road
past brick kiln to turn left down signed bridleway through woodland
strip. Descend short but steep section and follow path to right with
disused canal on your left. On reaching the footpath junction turn left
through field with hedge on your left. When the path meets road carry
on ahead past bungalows and houses towards village of Sparsholt. Just
after the Hall Place stables on your right you will see a stile on your
left. This is the way back to Childrey but you may wish to carry on
ahead for a few paces to visit the very nice Star Inn first. Climb the
stile and cross field to gate then on through second field to bear
right at junction to cross stile into road. Turn left down road and
then right at junction. Just after Parsonage Farm on right turn right
down down signed footpath. Follow marked path over stiles to side road
Dog Lane. Turn right at road junction to return to the Hatchet.
